This work explores the Japanese word azanau (あざなう), meaning to twist or intertwine strands together, as in the making of rope or cord.
The kanji form 綯う includes the 糸 (ito) radical, associated with thread, silk, and woven material. Here, the word is written in hiragana. The composition follows the kakijun (書き順), or prescribed order of writing the hiragana characters, with each repetition shifting orientation and rotating across the composition.
